The rumor was that Maryland's Da'Rel Scott and 6 of his teammates snuck out throughout the evening after mattress check in the Humanitarian Bowl, got caught and were benched by Terrapin coach Rob Friedgen.
"5 % of (the) men thought they didn't need to hear me, they might get mattress checked and sneak out," stated Rob Friedgen. "This is not my first rodeo," added Friedgen. So Scott, 3 other starters and the other teammates sitting, and sitting and sitting as Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick and the high-powered "pistol" offense obtained touchdowns.

Scott heated up following the first quarter, thinking Friedgen would call from the punishment and set him in the overall game throughout the very first half. No deal. He is made to sit down until half way within the 3rd quarter before he got his shot at Nevada, and so the 5-feet-11, 192-pound sophomore running back made his presence felt.
Scott went like he was 6-feet-6 and 260 pounds, gathering 174 yards on 14 carries (a 12.4 average) and 2 touchdowns. He was virtually easy because he went over, around and thru the very best tacklers Nevada needed to offer.
His first carry for 14 yards came at 5:55 left within the 3rd quarter and the next carry netted 11 yards. A 49-yard TD run with 12:21 left within the fourth quarter put Maryland up 35-28 and pressed Scott past 1,000 yards hurrying for that season, becoming the seventh in Maryland history to do this.
On Maryland's next possession, Scott reeled off runs of 11, 23, 30 and a pair of yards (66 yards total) to attain again with 7:44 left and set the Terrapins up permanently 42-35 within the high-scoring Humanitarian Bowl free for those Tuesday (12-30-08).
Meanwhile, Maryland's junior quarterback Chris Turner was busy giving the overall game away, turning the ball over two times with an interception along with a backward pass recovery that led to Nevada scoring two touchdowns.
Sophomore QB Kaepernick, the Western Sports Conference Player of the season, stored things interesting for that Wolfpack by finishing 24-for-47 to have an Alamo Bowl-record 370 yards and three touchdowns. Kaepernick even obtained on the 15-yard run with 2:19 left but Maryland retrieved Nevada's onside kick to keep its lead and win the overall game.
The overall game was exciting having a 99-yard kick return by Maryland's newcomer wide receiver Torrey Cruz and 10 running or passing touchdowns. As you would expect, there is not of large amount of defense being performed. Maryland ended the growing season at 8-5 and Nevada needed to be satisfied with a 7-6 mark.
